Academic qualifications to be awarded

 

The following is the qualification that will be awarded for the completion of the course:

  •  Certificate in TEFL by The London Teacher Training College, United Kingdom

Introduction

 

If you are new to English teaching, then the certificate is designed for you. It is intended for trainees who wish to embark on a career in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language.

 

This is a programme of at least 40 hours, which gives you an introduction to the theory and practice of contemporary English teaching. It covers the essential components needed to equip one with the necessary skills to land that first job as an English teacher.

 

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • understand the English language
  • be familiar with the varieties of English
  • understand how English language is acquired
  • be well-versed in language tutoring methodology
  • know how to select and use materials to teach the English language
  • know how to use materials and aids to teach English in the class
  • know how to design syllabuses/curriculums
  • know how to plan lessons
  • know how to organise and manage classes
  • know how to teach grammar and vocabulary
  • know how to teach receptive and productive skills

Admission criteria

To apply for the Certificate course, all trainees are to meet the following admission criteria:

  • 5 GCE O Levels with a credit in English
  • A high school qualification for foreign students
  • If you do not fall within any of the above categories and think you are qualified for the course, please submit all your qualifications and a letter explaining why you should be considered. Your application will then be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Pass the English proficiency test and interview conducted by our internal moderators.
